Schools - working towards Zero Waste
Many Zero Waste Councils and community groups around New Zealand are working with local schools on their journey towards becoming Zero Waste Schools.
Schools around New Zealand are recognising the need to implement waste minimisation programmes, in order to:
- Reduce the amount of waste the school produces
- Reduce waste disposal costs
- Protect the environment from pollution and
- Teach young people about resource value, waste minimisation and recycling.
Many of these programmes place great emphasis on setting up long-term strategies - with information being delivered by advisors to train teachers and pupils to take ownership of each system (and to carry the message back home).
