New Zealand Recycling Symbols

A series of recycling symbols have been developed by the Recycling Operators of New Zealand (RONZ) (in conjunction with Waste Not Consulting, the Ministry for the Environment and Zero Waste New Zealand Trust) to encourage the standardisation of recycling signage throughout New Zealand, enhance public and industry participation in recycling and to facilitate the correct separation of materials.

Easily identified and simple to use they can be used in a variety of applications such as:

  • Resource Recovery Centres
  • Workplace signage
  • Household, public and office recycling bins
  • Collection vehicles
  • Educational and promotional materials

RONZ has recently added the following symbols to the range in response to demand from users:

  • All cartridges: Print, Toner Ink & Ribbon
  • Mixed Glass/ Cans/ Plastics 1& 2
  • Paper - Confidential
  • Plastic - All wrap (black and clear)
  • Gypsum - Plasterboard
  • Treated wood
  • Untreated wood
  • Batteries
  • And different types of 'mixed' categories

They are freely available on the Internet as downloadable graphic files. To view the symbols, go to http://www.ronz.org.nz
