Your Role in Reducing Packaging Waste

Everyone can play a part in reducing packaging waste:

  • Look for products with less packaging when you are shopping
  • Choose products that are in packaging that can be recycled
  • Support responsible brand owners and retailers who are making an effort to reduce packaging waste
  • Look for products labelled 'Environmental Choice' - these are eco-friendly
  • Don't take a plastic bag at the checkout if it's not needed
  • Think twice before throwing packaging in the rubbish.  Cardboard, paper, glass, aluminium, and steel cans and plastic (types 1 and 2) can be recycled.

For more information about shopping environmentally, visit www.mfe.govt.nz and search for Packaging Accord.
