Zero Waste: Glass Recycling in NZ

   Glass recycling is a serious issue in New Zealand, as for the past few years the country's one and only glass smelter has not had the capacity to re-process the increasing volume of glass that is coming onto the local market. Couple this with a steadily improved collection of glass, and the outcome was the growth of 'glass mountains' in small towns  across the country, but particularly in the South Island.

The good news is that the smelter is to be expanded, with an increased capacity of some 60%, with completion due late in 2007.
