Zero Waste New Zealand Trust
Zero Waste New Zealand Trust was a charitable organisation that operated in New Zealand from 1997-2010. The focus of the Trust was to support the activities of community organisations, councils, businesses, schools and individuals involved in waste minimisation and recycling. It was also committed to integrating Zero Waste design principles and philosophy into the marketplace in order to reduce New Zealand’s waste. The Trust conservatively contributed 2.4 million dollars worth of value towards ‘zero waste and sustainable New Zealand’, for each year of its operation.

- More than 70% of local councils adopted the target of zero waste to landfill, and there is no other such country in the world.
- At least 350 community groups/ schools and most of the local councils in NZ were given support from the Trust on their waste minimisation activities.
- 150 people participated in 5 zero waste bus tours run since 2004. In addition 4 tailor-made NZ zero waste tours were organised for international visitors.
- The Trust was invited to speak on NZ’s Zero Waste initiatives in Malaysia, Ireland, and Argentina in 2005 and 2006; and visited to other countries in the same period have included Norway (food waste collection), Switzerland and Germany (biogas), UK (community activity), and Denmark and Austria (E-waste).
- Zero Waste initiated the development of an educational framework to support the growing waste industry through the Zero Waste Academy.
- Over 6,000 visitors uniquely visited our website per month.
