Zero Waste: Communication strategies
Mackenzie District Council’s Zero Waste Campaign - ‘No Time to Waste - Zero Waste to Landfill by 2014’Launched at the end of May 2002 the Zero Waste campaign was designed to bring about community wide participation in waste reduction and recycling to enable the Mackenzie District community and council to easily meet its Zero Waste target. Educating the public was recognised as being paramount to the success of the new solid waste management systems. An eyecatching brochure, called ’No Time to Waste’ formed the backbone of the publicity campaign. The new strategy has proved to be a success with residents having engaged with the three-bag kerbside collection (recyclables, compostables and residuals) and the three new resource recovery parks.
