Zero Emissions Research and Initiatives (ZERI) is dedicated to reducing waste and pollution to zero in business, municipalities, government agencies, communities and schools.

It was established in 1994 by Gunter Pauli, a Belgian entrepreneur.

ZERI is now established and involved in projects in eight countries.

ZERI concepts and methodologies have been successfully applied to a broad range of pollution, business, communities and employment challenges:

• Brazil's near bankrupt rice farmers now also produce profitable spirulina, pork, building materials and feed malnourished children.
• Colombia's starving coffee farmers have six new revenue streams:shitake mushrooms, cattle, pork, fish, energy and earthworms!
• NAFTA border project turns old tyres and chemical wastes into healthy high performance playing fields for kids!
• In Sweden, a defunct cement factory and a city's solid waste were combined using ZERI methodologies to create fertilisers, improve forests and erase expensive landfills.
